New research from the Cicero Institute has revealed that registered sex offenders make up a relevant and sizeable subpopulation of the homeless population in Iowa.

The alarmingly high numbers of homeless sex offenders across the country—including in Iowa—demand reconsideration of existing policies that may not adequately protect other homeless people and the wider public.

There must be an urgency to develop innovative programs and policies to more assertively address the humanitarian and public safety crisis unfolding on the streets of Iowa’s cities.
