Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Guidance Supports Licensure Reform
States can increase healthcare access and improve the doctor shortage by eliminating duplicative domestic residency requirements for internationally licensed physicians. Tennessee, Florida, Iowa, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Idaho, Virginia, Illinois, Colorado, and Massachusetts have already led the way, and more than 20 additional states have filed legislation to remove their own redundant residency requirements.
In recognition of this movement, the FSMB has issued guidance highlighting the need for many of the measures already championed by the Cicero Institute’s model bill.
