OVERVIEW
Cicero is seeking a full-time state government affairs manager to support the expansion of our growing organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our state government affairs team, monitoring and tracking legislation, and managing internal and external cross-functional projects. As our policy portfolio increases, this role offers expansive growth opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have state legislative, public policy, and/or campaign experience. This individual will need to be well-organized and able to manage and prioritize a high volume of complex tasks. This role reports to the Director of Advocacy and Strategy. While there is preference for this candidate to be in Austin, TX, this role can be executed virtually within the United States.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Policy Monitoring: Monitor the status of and join or lead calls about each policy area to quickly inform our organization’s leadership and staff.
- Information Management: Work with the Executive Director and State Government Affairs Directors to serve as a liaison between the Cicero Policy and Research team, Communications team, Engagement team, and external contractors and stakeholders.
- Advocacy Support: Provide support to the State Government Affairs Directors by assisting with Cicero’s state policy strategies.
- Communications: Ensure great internal and external communications to keep all audiences up-to-date and equipped with our most recent research. Work with the Communications team to build and protect the Cicero brand on social media, Cicero websites, and in the news.
- Travel: Must be available to travel for in-person meetings, sometimes on short notice. Travel up to 50%.
REQUIRED ABILITIES
- A honed ability to break down complex public policy topics into easy-to-understand language for varying audiences.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational and project management skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Adaptable interpersonal and communication skills.
- Impeccable integrity and sense of political awareness.
WHAT YOU BRING
Two or more years of experience in state legislative processes, public policy, or campaigns. You have a talent for communicating clearly and building relationships effectively, and you are comfortable traveling for meetings, conferences, and events.
GOOD TO KNOW
- Successful candidates must have the flexibility to travel quarterly to in-person staff meetings and additional travel for in-person meetings as necessary, up to 50%.
- Cicero staff are stationed around the country, and our home office is in Austin, Texas. This successful candidate will be communicating with contractors and staff across multiple U.S. time zones, which may be outside the candidate’s time zone of residence.
