New Mexico is already further ahead than almost every other state in the U.S. on one issue: competition. Unfortunately, this is not the case when it comes to corrections.
It is time to open the market to competition and support better outcomes for New Mexico and those the criminal justice system serves.
New Mexico can also pay prisons based on how well people do after being released from their facilities and other key metrics that are important to public safety inside prisons and out in the community.
